Site Offers Up to 70 Percent off on the Best Places to Eat, Shop and Have Fun

SEATTLE, WA–(Marketwire – September 22, 2010) –  WhitePages (www.whitepages.com), the largest and most trusted online directory, today announced the San Francisco Peninsula launch of its social buying service DealPop (www.dealpop.com). DealPop SF Peninsula will feature deals that offer fantastic savings of up to 70 percent off of the best places to eat, drink and have fun on the Peninsula. The SF Peninsula site kicks off with deals from Prolific Oven ($5 for $10 worth of food and drink), Yoga Source ($18 for $36 worth of classes) and Gelato Classico ($1 for $5 worth of Gelato) in Palo Alto, Menlo Park Academy of Dance ($15 for $30 worth of dance classes) and Classic Touch Salon in San Mateo ($40 for $80 worth of products and services). On Friday, September 24, DealPop will feature a social cause deal from Vittana (see related press release titled “DealPop Launches Social Cause Deals to Help Non-Profits Generate Both Awareness and Funds“).

Similar to group buying deal sites like Groupon and Living Social, DealPop makes it easy to share deals with friends and family, however with DealPop everyone gets a deal because there isn’t a minimum number of people who need to purchase before the deal goes through. DealPop has also created a point system that allows members to earn points on future purchases when they share a deal with someone via Facebook, Twitter and/or email who then signs up and purchases that deal. There is no limit on the number of DealPop Points that members can earn.

“I started WhitePages from my dorm room at Stanford and we’re excited for the company to be returning to our original stomping grounds to bring great deals on the San Francisco Peninsula,” said Alex Algard, chief executive officer at WhitePages. “We are now officially up and down the West coast and are focused on bringing consumers the very best deals that they can share with their friends.”

As a WhitePages subsidiary, DealPop analyzes more than 100 million local and business searches conducted monthly by 20 million people per month at WhitePages.com and 411.com to determine the most popular places to eat, shop, and have fun. This insight, combined with first-hand knowledge by DealPop Bay Area’s local insiders, will allow DealPop to quickly identify relevant merchants and provide the hottest deals for consumers on the San Francisco Peninsula. The company will promote each deal on www.dealpop.com, through a daily email to subscribers, via Twitter and Facebook and on WhitePages’ website.

At launch, DealPop SF Peninsula will be offering deals in San Carlos, Foster City, Redwood City, San Mateo, Belmont, Redwood Shores, Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Woodside. SF Peninsula residents can sign up for DealPop at www.dealpop.com and can visit DealPop SF Peninsula’s Facebook page or Twitter account to provide suggestions of where they’d love to get a deal. DealPop is running a sweepstakes offering a free iPad to the first member to compile 1,000 DealPop points. To be considered, all people have to do is invite 20 friends who then make a purchase.
