Sun City Resident Becomes Arizona Lottery’s Most Recent Millionaire

PHOENIX, AZ–(Marketwire – November 24, 2010) – A Sun City resident was shocked to learn that his second place prize in the Nov. 17 Powerball draw greatly exceeded the $200,000 he was expecting. The winner, who requested to remain anonymous, won $1 million as a result of spending an extra dollar on the PowerPlay.

Every Wednesday and Saturday, the winner buys ten QuickPick Powerball tickets with the PowerPlay option. With PowerPlay, for an extra $1 per game, you will automatically win $1 million if you match all five numbers, excluding the Powerball. The winning ticket was purchased at the ARCO AM/PM located at 10303 W. Grand Ave. in Sun City.

“When the clerk checked my ticket and told me I had won $1 million, I didn’t believe him,” said the winner. “I called my wife to have her check the numbers in the paper again. We didn’t believe the amount until it was confirmed by the claims office.”

The winner plans to share his prize with his wife and children.

“Words cannot express how happy we are to award a $1 million Powerball prize to an Arizona resident during this holiday season,” said Jeff Hatch-Miller, executive director of the Arizona Lottery. “It is especially gratifying since the winner is an avid Lottery player. There is no doubt that this win will dramatically impact their lives.”

Winning numbers for Powerball are broadcast Wednesday and Saturday during the 10 p.m. news on Channel 13 (CBS) in Tucson and posted on www.ABC15.com.
