New Editor, New Era for British Columbia Magazine

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Marketwire – Oct. 4, 2010) – British Columbia Magazine is pleased to announce that longtime magazine writer and editor Jane Nahirny has joined the team as Editor in Chief, effective August 23, 2010.

Ms. Nahirny’s background includes 23 years of editorial experience in the magazine sector. She has worked as a freelance and staff writer and editor for numerous national and regional magazines, including Canadian Home StyleHamilton Magazine, Golf Canada, and Wedding Bells Magazine. Most recently, she worked as Communications Director for the Montreal-based Canadian Sporting Goods Association.

Ms. Nahirny joined British Columbia Magazine in November 2007 to fill a maternity leave position. Her first assignment was to research and write an 18-page sesquicentennial feature for the magazine’s special BC 150 issue. Further assignments followed and, one year later, Jane was retained to promote and market British Columbia Magazine‘s 50th Anniversary. During that time, she developed the master plan for the magazine’s successful “Share Your BC” campaign that encourages British Columbians and visitors to the province to contribute their favourite B.C. stories to a permanent, searchable database.

“We welcome Jane and look forward to working with her to build the magazine’s brand and offer our audience new ways to access B.C. travel information,” said Susan Rybar, publisher.

“I truly feel honoured to guide this iconic publication into its next era,” said Ms. Nahirny. “We’ll continue to provide our readers with the high-quality articles and awe inspiring photo spreads they’ve come to expect from British Columbia Magazine. But as we move into our 52nd year, we’ll also focus on creating editorial features that meet the needs of the next generation of British Columbia Magazine fans.”
