SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – August 20, 2010) – FreeToChooseOurMeals.com reviewed constituent concerns with the unpopular Happy Meal Toy Ban legislation proposed by chief author Eric Mar, member of the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco. The legislation is also sponsored by David Campos, member of the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco, and David Chiu, president of the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco.
The bill will be reviewed in committee in the near future. Currently, the Board of Supervisors is on recess.
Bob Cutler, CEO of Creative Consumer Concepts (C3), is furious with the proposed legislation and recognizes that banning kids’ meal toys will not put an end to childhood obesity. “Regardless of the real cause for obesity in this country, political leaders have now decided to launch an assault on parents. Our freedom of consumer choice is being attacked. Public opinion does not support this,” said Cutler.
Cutler added that, “Studies have clearly shown how our local governments can support children’s health, but the political leaders prefer to attack business as the culprit hen. In fact, unsafe neighborhoods, the elimination of physical education in schools and the high-calorie school lunch programs are the real cause for concern.”
Call your elected officials and tell them NO to the Toy Ban and any other legislation that eliminates consumers’ free choices. http://tinyurl.com/2fj5h66
According to a recent online poll conducted by the San Francisco Chronicle, only 26 percent supported the ban.
