NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – November 23, 2010) – The National September 11 Memorial & Museum and Sharp Electronics Corporation today announce that Sharp is the official sponsor of a new, dynamic video installation for the September 11 Memorial & Museum to be installed at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site at 20 Vesey Street. The public display features animated renderings of the Memorial & Museum. The official “9/11 Memorial Opening Day Counter,” which provides the public with the number of days until the official opening of the 9/11 Memorial on September 11, 2011, is integrated into the 13′ x 7′ video wall. The video wall is comprised of nine Sharp LCD monitors. As part of the $1 million pact, Sharp will also provide future audio/video technology support to the Memorial & Museum.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today joins 9/11 Memorial President Joe Daniels and Sharp Electronics Corporation Chairman and CEO Kozo Takahashi in a ceremony to unveil the display at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site, a 2,000-square-foot storefront that has had more than 1.3 million visitors since opening in the summer of 2009. The Preview Site was established to provide the public with an opportunity to learn about the Memorial & Museum, track construction progress and record personal 9/11 stories for use in a future museum exhibition.

“The shared experience of September 11, 2001 will forever be woven into the history of this country, and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will convey that history for generations of New Yorkers, Americans and people from around the world,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “The new video installation at the Preview Site will give a one-of-a-kind look at the rebirth of the World Trade Center site. Sharp’s contribution will help the 9/11 Memorial succeed in fulfilling its mission of preserving the history of 9/11.”

The video wall is constructed of nine Sharp PN-V601 60-inch professional LCD monitors, which feature very thin borders. With minimal space between each individual LCD monitor, the installation is able to deliver a fluid, single screen effect that will deliver large lifelike images to site visitors.

“It is our goal to integrate cutting-edge technology to help fulfill our mission to educate, raise awareness and document the history of September 11,” said Daniels. “The video resources Sharp offers us will not only allow visitors to see and experience a rebuilt downtown Manhattan and 9/11 Memorial, but underscore our remembrance of those lost, our vision for renewal and show our resiliency after an unprecedented terror attack.”

“The impact of September 11 was felt the world over,” said Mr. Takahashi. “Sharp is very honored that our products will play a role in enhancing the experience for those who will visit this site in expectation of the memorial’s opening and the continued development of the downtown area.”

ABOUT THE NATIONAL SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the not-for-profit corporation created to oversee the design, raise the funds, and program and operate the Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center site. The Memorial and Museum will be located on eight of the 16 acres of the site.

The Memorial will remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who died in the horrific attacks of February 26, 1993, and September 11, 2001. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees.

The Museum will display monumental artifacts linked to the events of September 11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 attacks and the aftermath. It will communicate key messages that embrace both the specificity and the universal implications of the events of 9/11; document the impact of those events on individual lives, as well as on local, national, and international communities; and explore the continuing significance of these events for our global community.
