Founded by The Bay Area Wine Project with the ultimate goal of advancing the profile of pinot noir, Pinot Days is a three-day celebration of Pinot Noir and its most brilliant winemakers, the vineyards, the grapes, and the often-bewitching process of urging the noble pinot grape into great wine. At Pinot Days, the winemakers and winery owners do the pouring, creating a uniquely engaging experience where wine enthusiasts can interact, ask questions and learn the stories behind what goes into making great pinot noir.
Pinot Days founder Steven Rigisich believes 2010 may be the best year in Pinot Days Chicago’s 4-year history. She explained, “Pinot noir is at its best, with quality and breadth of style increasing with every vintage. The winemakers attending this year’s Grand Festival are among the best in the country. We expect this year to be the ultimate celebration of the ‘noble grape.’”
Pinot Days events for 2010 will include a hosted Winemakers “Table Hop” Dinner at Uncommon Ground, and a “Pinot 101” with Sommelier Brian Duncan, held at the renowned Bin 36 restaurant, featuring 16 notable pinot noir producers including Rod Berglund of Joseph Swan, Ed Kurtzman of August West, and Wes Hagen of Clos Pepe.
Each year, Pinot Days conducts a large-scale annual charity auction at the San Francisco event, the proceeds of which go to one IOCC charity. This year’s Pinot Days Charity Auction Beneficiary is the IOCC’s Prevention of Mother to Child HIV/AIDS Transmission (PMTCT) activities currently being undertaken in Ethiopia. 92% of the monies raised for this cause will go directly to providing food to people in the greatest need. Pinot Days Annual Charity Auction has raised over $91K to date for various beneficiaries.
