Responds to San Francisco Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee Hearing to Ban Happy Meal Toys

SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – October 1, 2010) –  San Francisco Land Use and Economic Development Committee members Sophie Maxwell, Eric Mar and David Chiu debated the issue of banning Happy Meal toys in kids’ meals this week. According to a recent San Francisco Chronicle article (, Mayor Gavin Newsom opposes the legislation, and 78 percent of voters polled by Tulchin Research revealed that they trusted parents more than elected officials to decide what is best to feed their children.

Bob Cutler, CEO of Creative Consumer Concepts (C3), said that while parents should be commended for taking a stand to choose what they want to feed their children, city officials need to consider why they want to pass unpopular legislation. “Parents should control what they want their children to eat, not government officials who are upset about Happy Meal toys. Eric Mar, who sponsored the bill, is not even in agreement with Mayor Gavin Newsom. Obviously, this is not about constituents, rather political attention,” said Cutler.

Cutler, who is the CEO of one of the largest, kid-smart brand marketing agencies to the restaurant industry and funds, said it is not just parents who are opposed to this issue, but toy manufacturers and fast food companies, too. “Supervisor Eric Mar went on the record at the hearing and praised Ken Yeager, who sponsored this same ridiculous bill in Santa Clara County where 65 percent of voters opposed it. Eric Mar thinks that these quick service restaurants (QSRs) are to blame. His arguments are incredibly bold, not supported and unpopular,” said Cutler. is for anyone who wants to choose what they eat!
