American Holidays: The Two Most Popular US Cities for Brits

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM–(Marketwire – Dec. 13, 2010) – A spokesman for Heathrow Airport recently revealed the two US cities at the top of British travellers’ lists for the upcoming festive season.

According to the spokesperson for the airport, America’s two biggest draw cards for Brits are New York and Los Angeles. These two cities are particularly popular during the annual Christmas shopping season.

There are two major shopping pilgrimages that British holidaymakers on American holidays tend to make. In New York, the legendary Fifth Avenue keeps shoppers coming back for more, while Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles draws all their attention on the West Coast.

Fifth Avenue, situated in Manhattan, is an American symbol of wealth and prosperity, especially for New Yorkers. It has consistently been rated as “the most expensive street in the world”. Leading from Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village through Midtown and along the eastern side of Central Park, Fifth Avenue is an idyllic shopping haven.

For shopaholic travellers looking for a warmer Christmas, Los Angeles is the perfect destination. Rodeo Drive, the showpiece of “The City of Angels”, is a three block stretch of boutiques and high-end fashion shops that will leave even the most discerning fashionista spoilt for choice.

The Heathrow representative added that while “BAA does not track passenger bookings”, they do track scheduled flights. “However, it is fair to say that New York and Los Angeles remain two of the top destinations for travel from Heathrow over the Christmas period.”

Airlines may see an increase in travel to these cities considering the British Pound is currently in its strongest position against the US Dollar since the 1980s. Given the global economy’s recovery, it is expected that the number of British holidaymakers taking American holidays will once again increase this Christmas.
