Endowment to Carry on Knowlton’s Passion for Leadership
NORCROSS, GA–(Marketwire – August 24, 2010) – Stratix Corporation, a leading mobile enterprise solutions innovator, announced that CEO Bonney Shuman and other friends of Stratix co-founder David Knowlton, who died in 2007, have funded a new annual lecture series at The University of Georgia to promote the intellectual exchange of ideas among business leaders and young scholars. Donors share a vision to spread Dave’s energetic passion for leadership, encouragement and personal achievement to UGA students.
The annual lecture series starts in 2011 and will focus on educational topics that challenge young minds with the same principles of responsibility and thought leadership that led Dave to build a $100 million business from just a few hundred dollars he borrowed from his mother 27 years ago.
“There’s no more fitting tribute to Dave than to build a collaborative forum where youth, inspiration, challenges and ideas come together,” Shuman said. Shuman co-founded Stratix with Knowlton in 1983 and currently sits on the Executive Committee of the UGA Alumni Association.
Bill Young ’78, past chairman of the University of Georgia Foundation (UGAF), was honored to shepherd the gifts, which will be administered through the UGA Alumni Association. “I am pleased that students at Georgia who never had the chance to meet and know Dave will come to appreciate what he stood for as an entrepreneur and a gentleman,” Young said.
“Dave was a great inspiration,” said Alumni Association President Vic Sullivan ’80. “We hope others will continue to contribute to this exciting series.”
Former UGA Alumni Association Executive Director Dave Muia knew Knowlton well. “Dave was a diehard Bulldog fan and was very instrumental in establishing the UGA Alumni Association as we know it today,” Muia said.
