Munich, Liberia, Phoenix and West Palm Beach Among New Destinations This Winter at Montreal-Trudeau


MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC–(Marketwire – Sept. 21, 2010) – Aéroports de Montréal is pleased to announce new destinations that will enhance services at Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport for the 2010–2011 winter season. 

Travellers will have a choice of a total of 104 destinations served non-stop this winter from Montréal–Trudeau. Munich, Germany, as well as Liberia, Costa Rica, Phoenix, Arizona, and West Palm Beach, Florida, are the main additions to the schedule in comparison with last year. With added frequencies taken into account, 7% more seats will be available than in the winter of 2009–2010. It is important to note that schedules are subject to change.

Europe

Lufthansa will be offering Munich for the first time as a winter destination, with five flights a week. Previously, the Montréal–Munich service was operated only during the summer.

Air Canada will be maintaining its Montréal–Brussels connection, launched in June, with four flights a week, and will step up its Geneva service, with six flights a week.

Swiss will add two frequencies to its Montréal–Zurich connection, for a total of seven flights a week.

Sun

On the sun destinations market, Air Canada is resuming its Mexico City service as of this November 1, with seven flights a week using A319 aircraft. This service was interrupted this past May 22. Canada’s national airline will also be adding Cozumel and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Mexico, as well as Liberia, Costa Rica, to its winter schedule starting December 20, with one flight a week to each of these destinations.

WestJet will also enhance its sun service with the addition of flights to Montego Bay, Jamaica, Varadero, Cuba, Cancún, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, for a total of 1,100 seats a week.

Thomas Cook will begin its own sun services with destinations including Cancún, Liberia, Montego Bay and Punta Cana, for a total of eight flights, or nearly 1,700 seats, a week. Flights will be operated by Air Canada Jazz with B757 aircraft.

And Sunwing will add 25% to its sun capacity with the addition of new destinations including Cozumel, Havana and Porlamar, Venezuela.

Canada and the United States

In the transborder sector, the main addition will be the launch of Air Canada’s Montréal–Phoenix connection on November 6. The new flights will operate Saturdays and Sundays with A319 aircraft. Air Canada will also be adding West Palm Beach to its schedule starting December 19, with one flight a week. Delta will be doubling its capacity to Minneapolis from seven to 14 flights a week.

Porter Airlines will add two frequencies to its Toronto City Airport service, for a total of 13 flights a day, in addition to maintaining its Montréal–Halifax connection launched this summer.

Aéroports de Montréal is the local airport authority responsible for the management, operation and development of Montréal–Trudeau and Montréal–Mirabel international airports under a lease signed with Transport Canada in 1992.
