AUSTIN, TX–(Marketwire – November 18, 2010) – Del Papa Distributing Company was honored by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) as one of the agency’s oldest licensed beer distributors at a ceremony in Austin, TX on November 18, 2010. The TABC, as part of its 75th Anniversary celebration, honored many of its partners in the industry — companies committed to both keeping their communities safe and providing the best products available. Del Papa was honored along with fellow beer distributor Ben E. Keith Distributing as the two oldest distributors in the state.
The honor was accepted on behalf of the company by Del Papa Board Chairman Lawrence Del Papa, Sr., his wife, JoAnn, and Mike Ferlet, vice president of business relations and industry affairs.
“On behalf of the Del Papa Distributing Company family I’d like to thank the TABC for this recognition and for being a great partner,” said Lawrence Del Papa, Sr. “When my father founded this company in 1910 I know he had great visions for its future, but I’m not certain he could have foreseen how far we would go. It’s wonderful that we are still carrying on his vision 100 years later with great service and honors such as this.”
At the ceremony, TABC also received the 2010 Best Practices award from the National Association of Licensing and Compliance Professionals in recognition of their commitment to innovation and outstanding customer service. The agency also recognized its employees from around the state who have 20 or more years of service, and its employees of the year.
Del Papa Distributing Company is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary in business along the Texas Gulf Coast as an Anheuser-Busch distributor. The company was founded in 1910 in Galveston, TX by Omero Del Papa Sr., an immigrant from Lucca, Italy, who converted his retail grocery business into O. Del Papa Commission Co., the wholesale establishment that would ultimately become today’s company. Del Papa Distributing currently serves a 17-county South Texas territory stretching from Beaumont to Victoria.
The company has commemorated its century of service throughout the year with celebratory events, historical remembrances and scholarship donations to colleges and universities across its distribution region.
