Edinburgh Weekend Breaks

Scotland is an immensely popular vacation destination because it is highly suitable for a range of vacations.  If you enjoy countryside breaks the landscape ranges from masses of glorious coastal destinations to woodlands and mountains further inland perfect for mountain climbers, ramblers, hikers, hill-walkers.  In the following article I  examine Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city.

The city of Edinburgh has some of the most fascinating galleries and museums in the whole of the United Kingdom and accessible from the city is a superb selection of stately homes, fortified houses, historical buildings and castles which are well worth a visit. The city of Edinburgh is a city of two halves, the New Town and the Old Town, which are incredibly different, but both are a World Heritage Site.

Although a capital the city is a surprisingly green place and not that far away from the centre you will find yourself in the most picturesque countryside. 2 of the finest green areas in the centre of the city are Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Botanic Garden. On Princes Street are the common high street shops, in the West End you will discover stylish boutiques, in the New Town you will discover plenty of designer products and in the Old Town there are a wealth of independent merchants, designers and artisans.

Edinburgh is renowned the world over for it massive number of festivals. known as Europe’s festival capital the annual calendar is packed full of events and festivals throughout each and every month of the year. August is the busiest month, with 8 festivals taking place. At this time it is incredibly difficult to find an Edinburgh Hotel with a vacancy, so book as early as possible.

The Edinburgh festival year starts (or ends) with Hogmanay, the planet’s largest New Year party. Equally well known is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (comedy) and other festivals include; the Edinburgh Mela, Art Festival, Book Festival, Festival of Politics and more.

A Word About Edinburgh Accommodation

As mentioned earlier the worst month to find accommodation is August when most Edinburgh Hotels are fully booked. Unfortunately the same could be said about The Christmas and New Year period which is frequently booked almost a full 12 months in advance, so it is really vitally important to book early!

The city features a marvelous list of accommodation ranging from competitively priced budget establishment to the immensely pricey superior 5 star luxury hotels with gyms and spas with a plethora of character and charm. So whatever you can afford you can be certain to find the perfect accommodation for you online.
