Site Offers Up to 70 Percent Off on the Best Places to Eat, Shop and Have Fun in Los Angeles

SEATTLE, WA–(Marketwire – September 8, 2010) – WhitePages (www.whitepages.com), the largest and most trusted online directory, today announced the Los Angeles launch of its social buying service DealPop (www.dealpop.com). DealPop Los Angeles will feature daily deals that offer fantastic savings of up to 70 percent off of the best places to eat, drink, and have fun in the LA area. The Los Angeles site kicks off with deals this week from Seventeenth Street Café and Bakery ($7 for $15 worth of baked goods) and Umami Burger at Fred Segal ($5 for an $11 hamburger), both located in Santa Monica. Next week, DealPop will run a Just Get Movin’ week with more deals in Santa Monica from Yogi’s Anonymous ($7 for a $14 yoga class), Westside Adventure Camp ($15 for $60 worth of three boot camp classes) and Naomi Tango Studio ($7 for $15 worth of Tango group classes).

Similar to group buying coupon sites like GroupOn and Living Social, DealPop makes it easy to share deals with friends and family, however with DealPop everyone gets a deal because there isn’t a minimum number of people who need to purchase before the deal goes through. DealPop has also created a point system that allows members to earn points on future purchases when they share a deal with someone via Facebook, Twitter and/or email who then signs up and purchases that deal. There is no limit on the number of DealPop Points that members can earn.

“We’re excited to launch with some great deals in LA and look forward to helping people discover new places like an Abbott Kinney wine bar, improv in Westwood, a Westside exercise boot camp, or a place to grab lunch after hitting the Farmer’s Market on Main Street,” said Kevin Nakao, chief operating officer at WhitePages. “Social buying with DealPop is a whole new way for people to try these places without having to pay full price, a combination that consumers won’t want to pass up.”

As a WhitePages subsidiary, DealPop analyzes more than 100 million local and business searches conducted monthly by 20 million people per month at WhitePages.com and 411.com to determine the most popular places to eat, shop, and have fun. This insight, combined with first-hand knowledge by DealPop LA’s local insiders, will allow DealPop to quickly identify relevant merchants and provide the hottest deals for consumers in Los Angeles. The company will promote each deal on www.dealpop.com, through a daily email to subscribers, via Twitter and Facebook and on WhitePages’ website.

Angelenos can sign up for DealPop at www.dealpop.com and can visit DealPop LA’s Facebook page or Twitter account to provide suggestions of where they’d love to get a deal. For the LA launch, DealPop is running a sweepstakes offering a free iPad to the first member to compile 1000 DealPop points. To be considered, all people have to do is invite 20 friends who then make a purchase. Read more about it on the DealPop blog.
